Third World Cinema
The theme chosen for our film showing was Iranian films
specifically because it is a genre of film that our audience is
least likely to be familiar with. Moreover, our goal with the
screening of these movies was to show the audience
something that they had not seen before and
implant thoughts that they have never considered before
about the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.
Furthermore, the film was shown to a random audience
since every Tuesday the church
organizes a food drive, where random people sign in.
Therefore, based on our perspective of the
audience it mostly comprised of Hispanic seniors, ages 50
and up. Moreover, the event was held
in a small church called Puertas de Sion, located in
Miami Gardens. The films chosen by our
group were a short entitled “Israel and Palestine an
animated introduction” and “The Attack” by
Ziad Duoreiri. Therefore, the animated short gave the audience the background knowledge needed to fully understand “The Attack”, and displayed the information in a very entertaining
and clear way. In addition, “The Attack”, was a
politically neutral movie about a suicide
bombing, which was able to provoke thought in the audience
and accomplish our initial goal.
Evidence of this originated when one woman who got up to
talk Damaris about the issue, she
obviously was curious about the subject and at the same
time mad about the issue since she was a
Jewish citizen, as well so her opinion was completely
biased. In conclusion we were able to
show a group of people films that they have never seen
before and display to them a unique side
and our perspective on a very important issue.
